Cold pool + rain is an interesting experience!

Our pool is 40 feet long, and I did 32 laps (starting, swimming to the other side, then coming back counted as one lap.) Hoping with better conditions, I will do better as well.

Still waiting for the doctor to call me back with my blood results. I found mine from last year, so I am even more anxious to get them back and compare.

Training later on today.

Dbell overhead press machine: 10 lbs x 15
15 lbs x 2 sets x 15 reps

Dbell squats: 10 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps (OW!)

Dbell curls: 10 lbs x 2 sets x 15 reps
15 lbs x 15

DBell tricep extensions (bench): 10 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps

Seated row: 40 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps

Lat pulldowns: 50 lbs x 15
55 lbs x 2 sets x 15 reps

..Foam rolling, stretching, balance, etc as well.

I trained with Sean yesterday, then did conditioning at the end of the day...Youch

I managed to hit the track this morning- I didn't even count laps because I was going very slow; needless to say, I am sore. I walked (and ran for a little) for 40 minutes, but will try to go back tonight (depending on my schedule).

Conditioning this morning went well.. Very sweaty, but very good.

577 calories in 40 minutes on the *other* elliptical. Interval level 6 for a bit, then dropped it back to interval level 5. Again, I did not count the cool down because I got way lazy by then. Any way, another record beat.

Monday, July 27, 2009

I did conditioning on the *other* elliptical today to switch things up. Stupid machine doesn't have a cool down feature, which is not cool when you are working at extreme levels. I did NOT count the cool down calories in this one, as I was kinda just putzing along.

Anyway, 505 calories in 40 minutes- Interval level 5.

Training later on tonight.

I suck today. Like seriously. I have no idea why, but I have zero strength. Energy is there, but strength isn't. I could barely get through my stretches/etc.

Pre-stuff: BOSU squats, ball-bridges, ball reverse crunch, bird dogs, scorpions, straight leg raises, foam roller, hip cross overs, iron cross

Pull up machine: 6 sets to get to 25

Bent over dbell rows: 20 lbs x 10
25 lbs x 10
25 lbs x 10

Dbell squats: 10 lbs x 3 sets x 10 reps

Dbell chest press: 20 lbs x 3 sets x 10 reps

Overhead press machine: 10 lbs x 10
15 lbs x 10
15 lbs x 10

Um.. Wrote out a whole update and them Blogspot spazzed out. Ah well- here is the condensed version.

3 miles at the track in 41 m 18 s. I need to work on shaving that time down.

Training:

Foam roll: All over, the usual routine

Dynamic stretch: Hip cross overs, scorpion, bird dogs

Static stretch: Hamstrings, calves

Floor work: Ball reverse crunch, ball hip crossovers

Stability ball: Reverse hyperextensions, bridges

Body weight: Squats, forward lunges

Balance: Bosu squats, single leg deadlifts

I went way overboard with all the stretching stuff, and it zapped my energy for the rest of the routine.

Dbell tricep extensions: 10 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps

Dbell curls: 10 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps

Dbell squats: 10 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps

Dbell overhead press: 5 lbs x 15
8 lbs x 15
10 lbs x 15

Seated rows: 30 lbs x 15
40 lbs x 15
40 lbs x 15

Lat pulldowns: 50 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps

Instead of 50 "Hail Mary"s, I need to do 50 "Oh Snap"s for I have sinned. I, Jess Loscalzo, did not receive my daily dose of sweat at the holy temple of Snap. I did not do conditioning today, for I was bound by chains (well, a seat belt) and was not released from the dreaded automobile until a few minutes ago. The ride was rough and long- but I endured. I did not fall prey to gluttony, as I have met my nutrition numbers today.

I shall repent tomorrow.

For my conditioning this morning, I took a walk around my "neighborhood". I put that in quotes because I went beyond my neighborhood and went pretty far. Walked for an hour with pretty good hills.

Trained with Sean tonight, good as always.

On a totally unrelated note...Killdeers are now my favorite birds, as I had a stand off with one when I went to BigY tonight. I called them "priest birds" until I finally researched them. I have NEVER seen them before, but they are ALL over Snap parking lot. They are hysterical birds!

Midterm done!

Pretty damn proud of myself, food wise, because I hit all of my numbers EXACTLY today! Finally think I understand it all. Now I just need to expand and play around with options.

Really good cardio session this morning! Beat my elliptical old record!

40 minutes (cool down included as always), 556 calories. Average heart rate- 151.. I thought my average heart rate would have been higher, considering I was around 159 most of the time.. I guess my math is off, so I'll trust the machine.

Spent a lot of time in the ocean yesterday.. Jac was trying to teach me how to body surf, but I was still on remedial jumping over/with the waves. I did awesome by the end of our time- I knew when to jump (and how!), as well as when to just go under the wave or what not. RI waves are NOTHING like Florida waves; and Florida waves I can do! We walked against the current and waves to get away from the red tide, which was a workout in itself. Ewwww, grossness too. I really needed time to get away, which was nice.. Just wish we could have stayed longer!

Anyway, tredmill for cardio today.. I didn't really have a goal, I just walked. 300 calories- I guess I can try to beat that next time? But as I said, I didn't have a goal in mind, I just wanted to work up a good sweat.

Training went well, for the most part.

Warm up: Elliptical- 5 minutes

Foam roll: Quads, adductors, glutes

Dynamic stretch: Hip cross overs (floor), iron cross, straight leg raises

Floor work: Ball reverse crunch, ball hip crossovers

Stability ball: Reverse hyperextensions, bridges

Balance: Single leg deadlifts

Pull up machine: 112 assist- took 10 sets to get to 50.. Yuck!

Bent over Dbell rows: 20 lbs x 12
20 lbs x 12
25 lbs x 12

Dbell chest press: 20 lbs x 3 sets x 12 reps

Dbell squats: (butt touched every time!) 10 lbs x 3 sets x 10 reps

Dbell overhead press: 15 lbs x 3 sets x 10 reps

Friday, July 17, 2009

Woke up really tired, but I have a packed day, so I got into gear. 2 miles in 38 mins at Meckauer. I like the "trail", but I think I spent more energy squatting at bugs versus walking.

Thursday, July 16, 2009

Woohoo!! Beat my PR yet again during 40 mins elliptical.

Average heart rate- 154

Calories- 524!

It was crazy, and I think I was kinda in a trance for half of it, but at least I got it done. I needed to feel in control and have a positive experience. I think I am going to stop with the elliptical and try for one of my other goals for now.

Off to the hospital.

Day 2

I decided to switch things up and do my weight training in the morning. I was hurting all sorts of hurt when I woke up and figured I wouldn't be able to give it my all if I did cardio. So I'll do cardio later on today. It's odd how I am so tight and sore after these past 2 workouts compared to when I was just doing weights, etc. Hm! Must be a good sign.

Warm up: Elliptical- 5 minutes

Foam roll: Quads, adductors, glutes

Dynamic stretch: Hip cross overs (floor), iron cross, straight leg raises

Floor work: Ball reverse crunch, ball hip crossovers

Stability ball: Reverse hyperextensions, bridges

Balance: Single leg deadlifts

Pull up machine: (I was supposed to do 3 x 12, but instead I just set a goal and worked towards it, no matter how many sets) 112 Assist x 25

Bent over Dbell rows: 20 lbs x 12
20 lbs x 12
20 lbs x 12

Dbell chest press: 20 lbs x 12
20 lbs x 12
20 lbs x 12

Dbell Romanian deadlifts: 25 lbs x 10
30 lbs x 10
30 lbs x 10

Squats on bench: (I know it was supposed to be split squats off bench, but I didn't have much fire left in me by then) 10 lbs x 10
10 lbs x 10
10 lbs x 10

Update:

Cardio: WOOHOO! Beat my previous PR. I did 512 calories on the elliptical in 40 minutes.. Average heart rate 144. Now gotta beat 512 calories.

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Oh.My.God. I did some hills this morning.. Man, talk about quite the workout! My legs are killing me. I sucked and only did 7.5 climbs in 10 minutes. I know I am using the wrong terminology, but a "climb" for me is going up and coming down.

If you go to the Bethel track, stand looking past the Ralph Desantis scoreboard.. Next to the baseball field cages you'll be staring at the hill o' death. I thought it was a pretty ambitious hill to pick for a first time, but at least I have something to work off of now. After the hills, I walked the track. I did try to run a bit, but that wasn't happening.

Today is the first day that I will not be doing any hospital runs. I have a HUGE assignment due for my psycho class. Do I really need to know about assistive technology in other countries? Do I really need to know what legislation says about wheelchair use in China? No.

Edit: Started working at 9:00 after I had breakfast, worked out, etc.. So it's now 3:46 and I just finished my work. Caught up until the 22nd. :( Still have to read 600 something pages. My thighs are killing me- I guess I found an area I need to work on! Heading to the hospital since I have time.

490 calories on elliptical.. average heart rate- 142.

Training with Sean later on!

Saturday, July 11, 2009

2.75 miles in 40 minutes.. Still aiming to get past this and get to 3 miles!

Friday, July 10, 2009

I think exhaustion has hit me.. I sucked yet again at cardio- elliptical 486 calories in 40 minutes. Average heartrate- 136. Stinky- didn't beat last time... Ah well, I'll do better next session.

Thursday, July 9, 2009

Kinda sucked at cardio today- 2.5 miles in 40 minutes. Not my best, but not my worst. I had an obnoxious pain in my rib'ish area that wouldn't let me stand up straight.. It kept pulling me forward. I need to go back to stretching/rolling.. I admit I haven't done it once this week.

We haven't slowed down yet. At all.

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

Things are intensifying moment by moment.. Man, talk about things changing on a dime. Also, things are getting worse with my Gma. When it rains, it pours, huh? Today, we have to split our time between the nursing home and the hospital.

I missed cardio yesterday, but was able to go this morning. Average heart rate- 144, and 496 calories. This will be going on my P.R. sheet as a starting point.

My eating has sucked this week. I know I am not eating enough at all. I am trying to get all my protein in so I at least have something to tide me over and give me sustenance. When things calm down, I have to really focus on getting my eating back up to par.. At least I am not eating anything bad/wrong!

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

I know this is supposed to be my workout journal, but many of my close friends and family read this, and this was the only common link between them. Anyway.

I am heading to the hospital for the day to be with my Aunt. Things are not looking good at all.

I am hoping to go do cardio tonight, as I am sure I'll need a release.

Monday, July 6, 2009

Went to the track for cardio this morning. Totally beat my previous distance- I went 2.75 miles in 40 minutes. I used lane 3 for walking the curves and lane 1 for jogging the straight aways. I have realized that I suck at running/jogging. My strides are super noisy and I just... I dunno! I can't really effectively go fast without looking like a spaz. Ah well, it didn't stop me. Next time, I would like to jog/run the straight aways in EVERY lap. This time, I walked the full laps towards the end. At least I improved my distance by half a mile!

On a more somber note, things have gotten shoved into craziness again. My Aunt (my Uncle Billy's-the one with cancer-wife) was fine Saturday night, and on Sunday, was admitted to the hospital for complete paralysis from waist down and one arm.. I don't remember which one- my mind is kinda swimming. Cognitively 100% intact. She's in a lot of pain and was subjected to all sorts of tests yesterday. She is going for more today. This is equally bad because today is my Uncle's appointment with the oncologist to determine if he wants to let nature take it's course or if he wants to be on the meds that cost $100,000+. He has been fighting for 6 years and has dodged death more times that anyone could imagine. I don't know what it is that keeps him going, but holy crap, he's got it...

(Update 9:05- Pain has increased and the paralysis has moved to her other arm now. Neck down is not doing well)
(Update 11:02- Paralysis has taken over everything from her neck down. Her systems are shutting down. Cogitive acquity is not going so well either. They still don't know what it is- they have possible theories, but will not know more until spinal tap is done.)
(Update 3:42-
She was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome. Not the diagnosis that we wanted at all. It's attacking her lungs and she is now in the ICU. They are putting her on a ventilator. If she pulls through, she will be in the hospital for weeks/months before being transferred to a rehabilitation center. They are going to put her on immunoglobulin therapy when she is stable enough. They think she's already in renal failure.)
(Update 8:40- Her bladder has shut down, and other organs are starting to slowly shut down. Her oxygen levels need a major boost. Her blood pressure is up to 220 over 190. She is on a ventilator now and is receiving the immunogobulin therapy tonight. My Uncle finally made it to see her, and the stress took a toll on him. He is being admitted at his "home base" hospital, Montefiore in the Bronx. It's not good that he's back in the hospital, but it is good that someone will be able to watch after him. Tomorrow is the turning point in my Aunt's health. They will know what her prognosis will be.)

.. And on top of it, things are not cool at the nursing home with my Gma. I will probably step in and take over those responsibility so my Mom can deal with my Aunt. We'll all have to pull together to figure out how to care for my Uncle. If my Aunt stays in the hospital much longer, we'll have to hire a nurse or live in companion for him. Oy.

.. AND. Today is my first day of class. WTF did I get myself into? This class is psycho. Seriously. I should have read 526 pages by today. HAHAH! Did I? No. Fun.

Saturday, July 4, 2009

Went on hike this morning. A little bummed out that I was huffing and puffing so much. I shrugged it off though because I thought I recovered in reasonable time. It was a good hike!

Nothing much planned for today- Jac and I are cooking dinner (and dessert), then we're heading to watch fireworks! Good times, good times. We'll also probably work on the aquariums to try to get my little buggers happier and in the mood to breed.

Happy 4th of July everyone!
