Not really at the weight that I wanted to enter 2010 with. I have been working at this, collectively, since 2004. 6 years of diets, work outs, successes and failures. It's crazy to think about considering I am still not where I want to be.. Close, but not there yet. My wish for the New Year is to be where I want to be (weight wise) by the end of the year. Possible? Yeah. Realistic? I hope.

I didn't make it to the gym today. Weather and commitments prevented it.

Food:

Should be: 40, 90, 150
I did: 39.1, 91.0, 150.5

All I have to say is amen that 2009 is over. 2010 HAS to be better :)

Trained with Sean this morning after a very LONG ride home from RI.. I want to go to sleep, but since I ate later than usual, I have to wait up to eat. Bleh! Talking about eating, I screwed up my numbers today. At some point, my brain got jumbled and I started following my macros for a conditioning day instead of a training day. Hopefully not much damage done, but it still annoys me that I slipped up. I blame it on sleep ;)

Food:

Should be: 30, 120, 150
I did: 43.6, 120.1, 151.0

Not going to freak out about losing track of my papers etc. for last week. You and I both know I hit the food on target and worked my tail off :) I will, however, look for my numbers from yesterday.

Totally got the heck beat out of me today at school. Longest, most grueling take down yet. But, we survived. I spent the rest of the day hobbling and he went on his merry way as if nothing happened. ARGH. Must be nice!

Conditioning today, 30 minutes on Precor, 425 calories.

Another day, another day.. To keep myself entertained at the gym, I have given the regulars nicknames. We have "Loud preacher father of a former student ", "Creepy mother of creepy former student", "The moaner", "The bible guy", "The texting girl", "The smelly sweaty guy" and so on.. Of course I have a nickname for all these people, but I fear that they are assigning me a nickname too! LOL. These are the things that cross my mind.. I blame it on lack of oxygen while working out.

Conditioning today.. 27 minutes on Precor, 312 calories.

Wednesday, December 9, 2009

Trekked to the gym and had a pretty decent workout. It's nice going in the morning with only one or two people there.. Minus the guy who moaned and grunted so much that I felt dirty listening to him. Very creepy. The trainer working with him even kept looking away and watching people's reactions. I even think I saw a smile once.

Snow days are wonderful! (Oh, and I passed my final! Now I have to wait for the overall class grade.. Oy) ** Edit: Totally passed, got a 4.0 in the class! :) 4.0 average in my graduate classes, not to shabby. 4 classes left! **

I busted my tail at the gym today. 40 minutes- Precor- 455 calories. Damn!

As for training today, everything just felt super heavy. I toughed it out, but I could have probably been a little tighter on my form. Today was a horrible day. Since about 5:02 am until now, at 8:33 pm. I try to find at least one positive thing on those crappy days.. Today, I am happy that my legs finally feel normal from Monday's workout. I walk with a slight drunkards swagger, but at least I can sit normally today.. So... I'm getting a new student! Extra coverage? Of course not. Grrrrrr.

I got 2 of my Uncle's paintings today. He always always always wanted to show me how to paint.. He was amazing! He taught himself by watching Bob Ross on tv.. He would always say that he saw a painter in me. Promise after promise, we never quite coordinated schedules. High school turned into college and college turned into cancer. We missed the chance. We should have taken the freaking time, but we didn't. While helping out my Aunt this weekend, I took 2 of his pictures. He had made me one before (when he was in the thick of everything)- quite indicative of his mood at the time- lots of browns, barren trees, sparse vegetation.. A WORLD of difference from his normal flowers, forests, water.. I would have loved to send my one of a kind to the psychologist! I am sure they would have a field day with the hidden unconscious reasons that he made the picture as he did. The first thing he did when he learned to use his hands again- paint me that picture.

Anyway..I took 2 beautiful flower pictures. The color are vibrant and so realistic. You could tell he did this before he got sick. I need to get these framed.

I did intervals today, 30 minutes. 240 calories. The calorie expenditure seems less than I usually do, which is odd. I'll have to check on it.

I was reading back through my old personal journal, and I found this:

I Want To Be A Gerbil.

I decided today that when I grow up, I want to be a gerbil. I spent some of last night in my friends room, and they have two baby gerbils and they are the most intriguing creatures I've ever spent thirty seconds watching.

This is why I want to be a gerbil:

- They sleep all curled up with each other

- Their brains are so tiny, they are utterly amused with a toilet paper roll.

- When she sprayed the squeaky wheel this morning with WD40, the stupider of the gerbils ("Salt") started licking off the excess oil.

- Not realizing the oil had decreased the drag on the wheel, "Salt" proceeded to run at full speed for about 10 seconds. He stopped abrubtly, only to find that the now-ergonomically-correct wheel did not. "Salt" took two loops as a result.

- Then he got off, shook his head, and did it again.

This is why I want to be a gerbil. I want to have a brain whose greatest concern is which end of the toilet paper roll to chew, a stomach that can hold down WD40, a soft fluffy partner to sleep with and a wheel to spin me for loops all day.

I totally agree with myself. :)

Did not make it to the gym (or to Sean for that matter) today because of a stupid last minute Superintendent's meeting. I'm on the Leadership Cadre and he "values" my opinion. Yeah, translation, you get nominated for this thing and you have no choice but to say yes- it's the superintendent. You sit pow-wow style and talk for upwards of 4 hours right after school. Fun, huh?

Mom definitely needs the surgery within 2 weeks or so.

Uncle is still kicking, somehow! I am not gonna complain, but this dude is one amazing person. :)

Aunt is trying to kick. Recovery is slowing down and it's dampening her spirits.. Plus all the stuff with my Uncle.

....But as always, I'm still standing!

Feeling quite sore today! I pushed through and did intervals today. 30 minutes in all. I did not have my Polar with me, again, so I am not sure of the exact calories.

Did awesome on my food today!!
Should have been: 40 fat, 90 carbs, 150 protein
I did: 41.8 fat, 90.5 carbs, 150.5 protein

Monday, October 26, 2009

Sean kicked my ass today. I am already feeling it.. Oh joy! Not much of an update today. Same old stuff for the time being.

40 minutes conditioning- 410 calories (as always, not including cool down)

Food went well today.
Should have been: 30 fat, 120 carbs, 150 protein
I did: 31.4 fat, 120.7 carbs, 154.0 protein

Saturday, October 24, 2009

Stayed inside all day and just played games with Jac after taking Dreamy to the vet. Poor kittyboy! But anyway, it felt good to just do nothing (Well, my version of doing nothing is still being engaged in some sort of activity!). It's been so long since I've done that!

Food kinda sucked. I thought I did great, but I could have made better choices to be closer to the numbers.

Should have been: 40 fat, 90 carbs, 150 protein
I did: 36.1 fat, 93.0 carbs, 155.0 protein

Friday, October 23, 2009

Did pretty good on my food totals! Woohoo!

Should have been: 30 fat, 120 carbs, 150 protein
I did: 31.3 fat, 120.7 carbs, 151.9 protein

40 minutes of conditioning today.. I was bouncing around between machines and don't know my exact calorie total, but it was over 350.

Trained today as well, but the paper is in the car. I have to take care of some things before I update this part. Stay tuned.

Crud! Forgot to post my training numbers! I'll do it today!

Finally got to it:

Shrugs: 4 sets x 15 reps x 35 lbs

Dbell press: 3 sets x 10 reps x 15 lbs
1 set x 11 reps x 15 lbs

Flat bench Dbell extensions: 3 sets x 15 reps x 15 lbs
1 set x 13 reps x 15 lbs

Overhead extensions: 2 sets x 15 reps x 15 lbs
2 sets x 12 reps x 15 lbs

Dbell curls: 4 sets x 15 reps x 1o lbs

Machine curls: 4 sets x 12 reps x 30 lbs

Thursday, October 22, 2009

Stupid bike fritzed on me so I lost track of my intervals. I know I got through the 5 minute warm-up and the 15 minutes of intervals. I pushed for an extra 10 minutes just to make sure I didn't short myself on time. I also lost track of my calories because of the fritz.

Got my measurements from Sean today (doing the pinchy thing), and I did pretty well! Still have a lot of work to do, but I'm getting there!

Food should have been: 40 fat, 90 carbs, 150 protein
I did: 40.4 fat, 95.8 carbs, 147.6 protein

Ew, I suck.

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Missed the gym today and totally flubbed up my food numbers today.

I love my job, I love my job, I love my job... Got kicked straight in the sternum by the foot of one very very pissed 9 year old. I love my job..

9:46 pm and just got home after leaving my house at 6:55 this morning. HUGE presentation for the Board of Ed.. Went ok.

I normally get up at 5:02 (those 2 minutes make a huge difference). I am going to get up early and make my lunch. I just don't have it in me right now to start that battle.

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

In a major rush, so this is a quick update.

Conditioning today. Intervals, 30 mins total, 219 calories.

I got: 40.6 fat, 92.7 carbs, 152.7 protein

Hehe, I was over 2.7 for carbs and protein.. Not planned, but kinda cool. I did really well with figuring out the food today! Only over .6 in fat.

Monday, October 19, 2009

Short update today...Trained back with Sean today. I don't think I am going to like him tomorrow, but we'll see. :)

Thursday, October 15, 2009

Sore from leg training yesterday, but still decided to push with intervals today.

25 minutes; intervals on the elliptical- 296 calories. I didn't have my Polar with me, so I am not sure of exact heart rate levels, etc. I did keep checking and seemed to keep it up, so I'm good with that.

Food food food. So much freaking food! I think I did ok.. Still have to get this down to a science, but for today I should have been at:

40 fat, 90 carbs, 150 protein

In the words of one of my students-- "That was not so cool". I do not like that I am getting sick so often. I went from NEVER being sick to always being sick. Stress sucks. Aunt is home, we're primary caretaker for her. Uncle is back in the hospital yet again, and may have to look into hospice care. He is pretty much checking himself out. Gma is declining big time. I am offering as much help as I can. School, Masters, and everything is kicking my ass. I need to stop bitching, I know.. But I also need to remember that I am not superwoman as much as I'd like to think I am.

Yesterday I trained with Sean.. Kinda hard, but I tried to keep pace and strength. I showed up running on empty with nearly no food in my stomach. Yesterday was my first day of normal food- extremely limited at that.

Today, I ate slightly more, but not too much more. Things are still not up to par.

Intervals on the bike today. 25 mins total.

Saturday, October 10, 2009

Day 2 of being sick. Things don't want to stay down or stay in, if you get my drift.

UGH

Thursday, October 8, 2009

I reallllly like Putnam! Especially now, it's beautiful. When I am jogging, I need to watch my footing though- blankets of all sorts of nuts and branches can make it a bit slick. I am doing well though. I had about 5 more minutes until I was going to stop, but I found a little footpath off to the side. So, I followed it and found lots of stairs. These are huff and puff type stairs, especially after jogging/brisk walking/etc prior to that. Anyway....

Another number beat!!!! 38 minutes, 355 calories. That was 3 minutes longer than my usual time, and I brought my calories up another 30 or so. Pretty good. I have to work on my stamina and breathing. I tend to never breathe!

Starting new plan on Monday. I think I understand it, but want to really sit down and spend time with it. This is going to take a lot of determination.

Wednesday, October 7, 2009

Conditioning: 30 minute brisk walk around neighborhood

Training:

Pulldowns: 3 sets x 12 reps x 60 lbs
1 set x 12 reps x 70 lbs

Face pulls: 3 sets x 12 reps x 45 lbs
1 set x 12 reps x 50 lbs

Dbell row (together): 3 sets x 12 reps x 25 lbs
1 set x 12 reps x 20 lbs

Dbell incline press: 3 sets x 12 reps x 20 lbs
1 set x 12 reps x 15 lbs

Dbell flat press: 4 sets x 12 reps x 20 lbs

Ab machine: 4 sets x 12 reps x 50 lbs

Starting over.. Again! Fingers still tightly crossed. I hope I can pull enough strength and determination out of my hat to get me through this.

Friday, October 2, 2009

Stayed after school today and moved desks for an hour and a half- carried them upstairs, downstairs, down the hall, across the school. That was a freaking workout in itself! Got home from nursing home run too late to comfortably go to the gym, so I hit up Putnam Park again.

Pushed myself particularly hard and got 320 calories in 35 minutes. WOOHOO!! I beat my total yesterday in the same amount of time. I am really digging this route, so I think I will stick with it for a bit.

My Uncle was discharged from the nursing home and within a week was re-admitted to the hospital. My Aunt is being kicked out after a mere 2 weeks there. They are letting her stay there 3 extra days.. She comes home on Sunday, wheresa my Uncle comes home today. Oy, so much freaking crap.

CT nursing home done, onto NY nursing home.

Thursday, October 1, 2009

Went for a hike around Putnam Park. Pretty good paved trail complete with hills and dips. Once you reach the end, if you reverse your direction, it's like 1000 times worse! I grabbed a little paper guide map thing that most parks have- looks like there are some unpaved trails. I will hunt them down another time.

35 minutes- 293 calories. I jogged as much as I could- next time, I want to push it even more.

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

My parents recently got a new car, and in switching around cars, my Dad found a seat belt extender that they needed to buy so I could be properly restrained. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but looking back, I wonder how I didn't see it. I needed the extender and it was still tight on me. Blah. My Dad gave it to me to put with my "big girl" pants. You guys know the story of the pants.. Size 32. Another "WTF, Jess?!" moment. Didn't I see that something was screwed up when I had to go to multiple states to find dressy pants? Didn't I see that the 32's were tight? Oh well, that's the past, and I can't focus on that. I also can't forget it.

Had to miss yesterday- my class is KILLING me. 7 hours on ONE assignment. For those of you who know my gripe with her- it's even worse when you deal with her for the entire semester. Oy. Anyway.

Conditioning- Only did 20 minutes.

Busted my tush with training today. Worked on the new routine- went ok. However, I really wanted to do the BOSU squats, but the other trainer was using it and I was too chicken to ask to use it.

Plie Squats- 3 sets x 15 reps x 35 lbs
1 set x 15 reps x 40 lbs

Seated Leg Curl: 2 sets x 12 reps x 70 lbs
2 sets x 12 reps x 75 lbs

Romanian Deadlifts: 2 sets x 12 reps x 35 lbs
2 sets x 12 reps x 40 lbs

Had to substitute and I didn't have the list with me, so I went for:

Leg Extensions: 2 sets x 12 reps x 55 lbs
1 set x 12 reps x 60 lbs

Ab Machine: 4 sets x 12 reps x 50 lbs

Stretching, rolling, etc.

Spent hours upon hours walking at the Big E. Good times and interesting times. It was my cheat meal, so I walked in prepared to go crazy at every food stand that I found. After watching the people around me eating, I suddenly started to realize I didn't want to engage in that- I didn't need to. I went up to many stands, waited on line and at the last minute, backed out.

I ended up getting a corn dog (the small one- I couldn't rationalize eating a 16" hot dog.), a Del's Lemon drink thing (OHMIGOD, heaven. I usually get a little one in RI with Jac as a cheat.. However, I went full out and got a "regular" sized one!). What else did I have..? 4 boneless buffalo wings and a Dunkin Donuts hot chocolate. My Mom bought a mondo half sour pickle, and I took bites of that- I did eat gobs of the pickled garlic that was stuck to it. Jac and Mom split a bag of clam cakes.. I had literally 3 or 4 little fritters. And that was really it! I totally wanted to eat everything in sight.. I thought I handled it very well.. At least we did a lot of walking- not enough to counteract the food, but enough to make me think I was doing something good ;)

Squeezed in conditioning before meeting with Sean today- 100 calories on the strange cloud-walker type machine. Trained with Sean.. Kinda bummed that I didn't do better, but I did my best!

With Sean and Theresa's support, I am going to try a new nutritionist. Let's cross our fingers- something has GOT to help!

Friday, September 25, 2009

Even though my legs were killing me, I decided to do hills in my backyard. The hill isn't anywhere near intense as the ones near the track, but they were bad! 20 minutes, 162 calories. I wasn't running them- however- I worked up a good sweat and got nice and red.

I did train today. I will start my new routine on Monday.

Pull ups: 3 x 12 (HARD!)

Dbell row: 3 sets x 12 x 25 lbs

Chest press machine: 12 x 15 lbs
12 x 30 lbs
12 x 35 lbs

Deadlifts: 12 x 30 lbs
12 x 35 lbs
12 x 40 lbs

Split squats: 3 sets x 10 x 15 lbs

....At least my upper body doesnt hurt any more ;)

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Man, 2 little weeks can make a huge difference in strength training! I trained on Monday with Sean and then again today. Not to complain, but holy hell, I am sore! I hadn't recovered from Monday but figured that I could handle it. I had to put forth a LOT of effort. Ah well, got done what I needed to do :) Tomorrow is going to be interesting, although I am hoping less ouchy.

Foam roller, stretching, etc

Lat pull down: 15 x 55 lbs

15 x 60 lbs
15 x 60 lbs

Seated row: 3 sets x 15 x 40 lbs

Overhead machine press: 15 x 10 lbs
15 x 12.5 lbs
15 x 15 lbs

Ab machine: 3 sets x 15 x 55 lbs

Squats: 3 sets x 15 x 15 lbs

Bicep curls: 15 x 10 lbs
15 x 10 lbs
15 x 15 lbs (not a smart move!)

Tricep extension: 3 sets x 15 x 10 lbs

Back in the saddle again!

Chest is super sore from working with Sean yesterday- it is kinda comforting to be sore again.. If that makes any sense.

I walked around the industrial park near Bethel Health Care today instead of doing conditioning at the gym. 36 minutes, 244 calories. I would have liked to walk/jog more, but I was walking with my Mom.. Enough said! On Thursday, I think I am going to go outside for conditioning again. Not sure if I will hit up Huntington.. I might go to Putnam instead. We'll see what the weather holds for us.

Alrighty, off to do school work.

Thursday, September 17, 2009

Coughing, wheezing and hacking like an old lady, but I completed 30 mins of conditioning at Snap. 363 calories- average heart rate 136 on the Precor.

Today was the first time I went to the gym since last Friday. Craziness!

I'm still standin'

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

Sick yesterday, sick today.

I am not used to giving in to my sickness. This sucks! Obviously no gym yesterday and unless a miracle happens, I won't be going again today.

Thursday, September 10, 2009

So.. On my list things never to do again- today.

I went straight from school to the nursing home until 6:15'ish and then went straight to work out. Last meal was at 12:15 and I had only consumed 630 calories up to that point. Pushed really hard on the elliptical, did 30 minutes and got to 387 calories (beat yesterday's calories!). My legs started to go kinda tingly-mushy-numbish when towards the end. A better description.. You are outside, and your thighs go numb from being so cold.. And you're walking- that sensation of your jeans rubbing against frozen numb skin... I dunno, it went away when I stopped, so I am not concerned. I kept with it and kept pushing, but I am not gonna do that again.

My new theme song is "I'm Still Standin' "

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

366 calories on elliptical.. 146 average heart rate. Thought I would have done better, but I'll take it!

Almost another week down. I can do this, and I know with time, it will get easier. I am just waiting for when fate decides when the time is right. Today I got a letter from a parent of a particularly challenging student (you guys know which one- my little friend who needs .. well .. "protective holding") complimenting me, so that's one huge positive of the day! The letter went to the Sp.Ed. director and principal, so woohoo! I also was nominated to represent the Sp.Ed. department (for the entire district) on the superintendent's leadership cadre.

Going off to collapse now!

Tuesday, September 8, 2009

Mom is uber sick so I am on nursing home run solo for the week, at least. Today was my Aunt and Uncle, tomorrow is G-ma. Fun!

Just got home and need to finish up work- I am going to try to go to the gym later tonight. Try.

Thursday, September 3, 2009

Conditioning:

Precor- 370 calories; average heart rate 141 (though I thought it was higher!)

I really need to figure out how to spread out my food during the day. By the time I get home at 4'ish, I have only consumed about 700 calories or less. Usually less. A huge majority of my calories are consumed at dinner, and it always leaves me feeling blah. I just don't have time during the day to eat- and I am not just whining and moaning. I have NO planning, NO lunch and I need to be in 4 places at once. Honestly, they expect me to be in 4 classrooms at once. Aweeeesome. I eat as I go between classrooms, but usually I have one hand on the back of a child's shirt, and a data binder in the other. If I have an out of body experience, I'd LOVE to see myself during the day. I probably look like such a dope! But anyway. At least I know I have to work on that.

My numbers aren't really changing this week, but I'll keep at it. It's girl time. Again, I am not using that as an excuse, but that is a factor. Plus stress. Plus life. Gah! Oh well, I will trudge along!

Aunt Carole is being moved to Bethel Health Care on Monday. Uncle Billy has already been admitted there. G-ma is declining terribly at Putnam.. Fowl play-negligence-stupidity may be a factor.. We need to increase our presence there. Bleh.

Wednesday, September 2, 2009

Half way through the week.. Oh man. This year is seriously going to be the end of me! But let's try to stay positive and dwell on the fact that I escape daily without bruises :)

Conditioning:
Precor- 380 calories

Weights:

Pull ups: 3 x 12

Dbell row: 25 lbs x 3 sets x 12 reps

Chest press: 20 lbs x 3 sets x 12 reps- I wasn't happy with my form on the last few so I did an extra 5 to make up for it :-p

Deadlifts: 35 lbs x 3 sets x 12 reps

Split squats: Area was way overcrowded and all benches were used- so I did split lunges 3 x 10

Monday, August 31, 2009

Running way off schedule today so I had to make this a short day at the gym. Class starts today and I have so much crap to do on top of that! Enough complaining.

In 10 minutes of conditioning, I did 166 calories on the Precor- resistance 100.

Did pretty well on the weights as well, if I do say so.

Pull ups: 30 in 5 sets

Bent over rows: 30 lbs x 3 sets x 10 reps

Chest press: 20 lbs x 3 sets x 10 reps

Plie squats: 30 lbs x 10 reps
35 lbs x 10 reps
40 lbs x 10 reps

Overhead press machine: 15 lbs x 10 reps
17.5 x 2 sets x 10 reps

Friday, August 28, 2009

Lat Pulldowns: 70 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps

Seated Row: 40 lbs x 2 sets x 15 reps
45 lbs x 15 reps

Plie squats: 15 lbs x 15 reps
30 lbs x 2 sets x 15 reps

Tricep extensions: 10 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps

Dbell curls: 10 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps

Overhead press machine: 15 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps

Thank god the week is over. I think this has been one of the longest shortened weeks!

Thursday, August 27, 2009

Hopped on a few different machines to make the 40 minutes go faster- Nothing felt right for some reason. I know I was putting my all into it, but it didn't feel right. I dunno. So finally, I settled on the ol' faithful- the elliptical. I worked hard though on all machines that I hopped on (and off).

Work is kicking my ass triple time. I take back ANY complaints that I ever made over the past 6 years of teaching. This year tops the complaint mill and I am trying to be positive- heck, it's only the 4th day of school.

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Conditioning today.

Worked out on the elliptical for 30 minutes. 400 calories, average heart rate 146. I thought that was pretty good considering my iPod died on me and general routine mix up. I beat my old record for 30 minutes, so that made me happy.

I really have to get this eating thing under control. I am barely hitting 600 calories by 4:00. I eat when I come home, but that screws up my Snap time, as I have to wait to digest a little before I have a go at it. I am sure that once my routine pans out, I should be ok. I SHOULD be. :)

Monday, August 24, 2009

Trained with Sean.

No conditioning due to complete first day craziness!

Monday, August 17, 2009

What a day! I went back to school today to start setting up my room... I thought I was ready, but I am not. Spent a good majority of the day there.

Hurt my food baad yesterday when I was helping my Dad with the pool house and pool crap. Being sure of my strength (bad choice #1), I offered to stand on a wobbly shower chair (bad choice #2) and load about 20 lbs of water blocks (things to hold down the cover in the winter) onto a shelf that was about 10 feet in the air (bad choice #3). Mind you, that lifting ivolved shoving 20 lbs about 4 feet over my head. So, like I said, bragging about being strong, I did it. Effortless. Sure, I can do a few more bundles. The chair was wobbling bad, which in turn, was making me nervous. About 2nd round, I lose my confidence and it all comes crashing down on the top of my foot. NASTY black and blues all over the top of my foot. Bruises keep spreading and multiplying LITERALLY hour by hour. It hurts pretty bad, but I am sure nothing is broken. It just looks really nasty and is ouchie. I have to wear flip flops, which I love, but doesn't really help when your foot hurts. Normal shoes press on the top of my foot. By tomorow I am going to make myself wear sneakers as Wednesday I will be doing a crap load of walking, quahogging, and swimming.

Conditioning- 1 hour of swimming- continously- no floating, etc.

Training- not today between the hospital, classroom and boo boo foot.

Saturday, August 15, 2009

Took the day off.

Friday, August 14, 2009

Took the day off.

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

I would like to believe my little "emotional outbursts" helped me to be lighter on my feet, but I doubt that. Somehow, I managed to do 3 miles at the track in 38:38. Talk about killing my previous record! It was hot, I was grumpy, and dealt with these awful stomach/side/digestion cramps.. But I did it!

Another "Only in Bethel" moment. So, obviously, I was at the track, ignoring the world and doing my thing to my iPod. Suddenly, I hear something that sounded like a goose squawking behind me. Mind you, I listen to my music pretty loud and often get lost in it. So I take out my headphones, look around, and see nothing. Then, just as I put my headphones on again, I see a very interesting sight. An older man was standing diagonal to my car. Looked closer only to see that he was playing the bagpipes!! Just him and his bagpipes. The squawk that I heard was that noise that initially is produced when they are filling the bag up and tuning it. Not something you see everyday. Here's the best part- I hadn't stopped my music, and when I put it back on, Dr. Demento's They're Coming to Take Me Away was playing. Classic!

Trained with Sean this morning- no new numbers to report!

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

My laptop battery is going to die in a moment, so we'll make this quick.

For conditioning this morning, I divided my time between the Precor, Cybex and treadmill. I didn't really watch my calories from machine to machine, I just wanted to give each my all, no matter calories or heart rate.

I have to go back and add in my training from yesterday.

Monday, August 10, 2009

My Uncle was admitted to the hospital this weekend.. Which is a good thing and a bad thing. Bad thing because it means he is very sick. Good thing is that he is one floor below my Aunt. God bless the nurse who gets my Uncle. That nurse will either end up ordering an emergency castration or enough sleeping pills to put him into a deep sleep.

Went to the gym this morning- I was intending to go to the gym this morning, but all hell broke loose here with the pool, so I had to take care of that (my parents are away at my Dad's corporate thing). 30 minutes on the Precor- 340 calories. I don't know why I didn't count the cool down too.. I really am losing my mind. Focus is non-existent!

Heading out to do some training in an hour or so.

All the normal pre-training stuff: Check!

Pull ups: 6 sets to get to 30

Chest press: 20 lbs x 3 sets x 10 reps

Bent over rows: 25 lbs x 3 sets x 10 reps

Squats: 15 lbs x 3 sets x 10 reps

Overhead press: 10 lbs x 3 sets x 10 reps

Friday, August 7, 2009

Now I know what time NOT to go to the track- 5:30. There were a lot of hardcore runners who seemed annoyed with my jogging. I tried to move out of the way, but when you did, you'd be in the way of another. Ah well, I managed.

30 minutes- 2.25 miles. I would have pushed and tried to go for 40 minutes to see where I could get, but the stupid Lawn Doctor was there. I was feeling terribly nauseous after breathing in those wonderful chemicals for all that time.

Training later on this afternoon.

Dbell overhead press: 15 lbs x 15
10 lbs x 2 sets x 15 reps

Dbell squats: 15 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps (Struggled slightly, but did it!)

Dbell curls: 10 lbs x 2 sets x 15 reps
15 lbs x 15

4.0 on my final.. 4.0 on my paper.. 4.0 on my midterm.. 4.0 on my discussions.

All averaged together to be 4.0

Exactly half of my Masters is complete (15 credits)- 4.0 overall GPA (Damn I'm a nerd!). I really wish they offered scholarships, etc to part-timers. I certainly have the grades for it, as well as all the extras they look for. Hrumph. Ah well.
I have been slacking on here, as a few of my readers mentioned. Considering I only have a few readers, I took that as a hint that I need to get back into routine.

Finally checked the names of the elliptical. The *other* elliptical is a Cybex. So we'll be calling it that from now on.

410 calories in 30 mins on the Cybex. As with the other elliptical, I need to work on improving that. We'll get there. What else..Hm. Oh, trained with Sean yesterday, and am not liking him today. I'm sore, but I worked through it anyway and feel good now, so I don't hate him AS much now ;) I didn't work out on Tuesday due to an emergency hospital visit.

Look for a better update tomorrow- my brain is fried right now.

Did conditioning AFTER weights today. I just wanted to change it up a bit.

I switched to 30 minutes. With cool down, I got to 402 calories. Definitely need to improve that. I used the original elliptical machine, not the *other* one. I really need to figure out the brand names so I can refer to them properly.

Thankfully, there was only 1 other person (who was working with the other trainer) while I was doing my conditioning.. I am so far into delirium that the stupidest things amuse me. I normally don't watch the TV when working out, but today, I kept glancing up. There was a commerical for the Scooter Store. Has anyone seen that one? This little old lady is being pushed in her chair by her daughter (?), and a guy from the Scooter Store presents the lady with a shiny red scooter. The daughter and the Store guy are talking and poor ol' granny is going in circles with one arm in the air (much like riding a mechanical bull). Don't they see her?! I have no idea why this struck me as funny, but I started cracking up. Not normal laughing, but the type when you can't hold it in any more and you just burst into laughter. I honestly could not control myself.. Finally, the infomerical stopped and I stared at the floor to try to regain control... Thank god for the little things in life- even if it causes much embarassment. Stupid, stupid.

I'll update on training later. I am going to try to hit the pool before I got to the hospital.

Cold pool + rain is an interesting experience!

Our pool is 40 feet long, and I did 32 laps (starting, swimming to the other side, then coming back counted as one lap.) Hoping with better conditions, I will do better as well.

Still waiting for the doctor to call me back with my blood results. I found mine from last year, so I am even more anxious to get them back and compare.

Training later on today.

Dbell overhead press machine: 10 lbs x 15
15 lbs x 2 sets x 15 reps

Dbell squats: 10 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps (OW!)

Dbell curls: 10 lbs x 2 sets x 15 reps
15 lbs x 15

DBell tricep extensions (bench): 10 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps

Seated row: 40 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps

Lat pulldowns: 50 lbs x 15
55 lbs x 2 sets x 15 reps

..Foam rolling, stretching, balance, etc as well.

I trained with Sean yesterday, then did conditioning at the end of the day...Youch

I managed to hit the track this morning- I didn't even count laps because I was going very slow; needless to say, I am sore. I walked (and ran for a little) for 40 minutes, but will try to go back tonight (depending on my schedule).

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

Conditioning this morning went well.. Very sweaty, but very good.

577 calories in 40 minutes on the *other* elliptical. Interval level 6 for a bit, then dropped it back to interval level 5. Again, I did not count the cool down because I got way lazy by then. Any way, another record beat.

Monday, July 27, 2009

I did conditioning on the *other* elliptical today to switch things up. Stupid machine doesn't have a cool down feature, which is not cool when you are working at extreme levels. I did NOT count the cool down calories in this one, as I was kinda just putzing along.

Anyway, 505 calories in 40 minutes- Interval level 5.

Training later on tonight.

I suck today. Like seriously. I have no idea why, but I have zero strength. Energy is there, but strength isn't. I could barely get through my stretches/etc.

Pre-stuff: BOSU squats, ball-bridges, ball reverse crunch, bird dogs, scorpions, straight leg raises, foam roller, hip cross overs, iron cross

Pull up machine: 6 sets to get to 25

Bent over dbell rows: 20 lbs x 10
25 lbs x 10
25 lbs x 10

Dbell squats: 10 lbs x 3 sets x 10 reps

Dbell chest press: 20 lbs x 3 sets x 10 reps

Overhead press machine: 10 lbs x 10
15 lbs x 10
15 lbs x 10

Um.. Wrote out a whole update and them Blogspot spazzed out. Ah well- here is the condensed version.

3 miles at the track in 41 m 18 s. I need to work on shaving that time down.

Training:

Foam roll: All over, the usual routine

Dynamic stretch: Hip cross overs, scorpion, bird dogs

Static stretch: Hamstrings, calves

Floor work: Ball reverse crunch, ball hip crossovers

Stability ball: Reverse hyperextensions, bridges

Body weight: Squats, forward lunges

Balance: Bosu squats, single leg deadlifts

I went way overboard with all the stretching stuff, and it zapped my energy for the rest of the routine.

Dbell tricep extensions: 10 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps

Dbell curls: 10 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps

Dbell squats: 10 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps

Dbell overhead press: 5 lbs x 15
8 lbs x 15
10 lbs x 15

Seated rows: 30 lbs x 15
40 lbs x 15
40 lbs x 15

Lat pulldowns: 50 lbs x 3 sets x 15 reps

Instead of 50 "Hail Mary"s, I need to do 50 "Oh Snap"s for I have sinned. I, Jess Loscalzo, did not receive my daily dose of sweat at the holy temple of Snap. I did not do conditioning today, for I was bound by chains (well, a seat belt) and was not released from the dreaded automobile until a few minutes ago. The ride was rough and long- but I endured. I did not fall prey to gluttony, as I have met my nutrition numbers today.

I shall repent tomorrow.

For my conditioning this morning, I took a walk around my "neighborhood". I put that in quotes because I went beyond my neighborhood and went pretty far. Walked for an hour with pretty good hills.

Trained with Sean tonight, good as always.

On a totally unrelated note...Killdeers are now my favorite birds, as I had a stand off with one when I went to BigY tonight. I called them "priest birds" until I finally researched them. I have NEVER seen them before, but they are ALL over Snap parking lot. They are hysterical birds!

Midterm done!

Pretty damn proud of myself, food wise, because I hit all of my numbers EXACTLY today! Finally think I understand it all. Now I just need to expand and play around with options.

Really good cardio session this morning! Beat my elliptical old record!

40 minutes (cool down included as always), 556 calories. Average heart rate- 151.. I thought my average heart rate would have been higher, considering I was around 159 most of the time.. I guess my math is off, so I'll trust the machine.

Monday, July 20, 2009

Spent a lot of time in the ocean yesterday.. Jac was trying to teach me how to body surf, but I was still on remedial jumping over/with the waves. I did awesome by the end of our time- I knew when to jump (and how!), as well as when to just go under the wave or what not. RI waves are NOTHING like Florida waves; and Florida waves I can do! We walked against the current and waves to get away from the red tide, which was a workout in itself. Ewwww, grossness too. I really needed time to get away, which was nice.. Just wish we could have stayed longer!

Anyway, tredmill for cardio today.. I didn't really have a goal, I just walked. 300 calories- I guess I can try to beat that next time? But as I said, I didn't have a goal in mind, I just wanted to work up a good sweat.

Training went well, for the most part.

Warm up: Elliptical- 5 minutes

Foam roll: Quads, adductors, glutes

Dynamic stretch: Hip cross overs (floor), iron cross, straight leg raises

Floor work: Ball reverse crunch, ball hip crossovers

Stability ball: Reverse hyperextensions, bridges

Balance: Single leg deadlifts

Pull up machine: 112 assist- took 10 sets to get to 50.. Yuck!

Bent over Dbell rows: 20 lbs x 12
20 lbs x 12
25 lbs x 12

Dbell chest press: 20 lbs x 3 sets x 12 reps

Dbell squats: (butt touched every time!) 10 lbs x 3 sets x 10 reps

Dbell overhead press: 15 lbs x 3 sets x 10 reps

Friday, July 17, 2009

Woke up really tired, but I have a packed day, so I got into gear. 2 miles in 38 mins at Meckauer. I like the "trail", but I think I spent more energy squatting at bugs versus walking.

Thursday, July 16, 2009

Woohoo!! Beat my PR yet again during 40 mins elliptical.

Average heart rate- 154

Calories- 524!

It was crazy, and I think I was kinda in a trance for half of it, but at least I got it done. I needed to feel in control and have a positive experience. I think I am going to stop with the elliptical and try for one of my other goals for now.

Off to the hospital.

Day 2

I decided to switch things up and do my weight training in the morning. I was hurting all sorts of hurt when I woke up and figured I wouldn't be able to give it my all if I did cardio. So I'll do cardio later on today. It's odd how I am so tight and sore after these past 2 workouts compared to when I was just doing weights, etc. Hm! Must be a good sign.

Warm up: Elliptical- 5 minutes

Foam roll: Quads, adductors, glutes

Dynamic stretch: Hip cross overs (floor), iron cross, straight leg raises

Floor work: Ball reverse crunch, ball hip crossovers

Stability ball: Reverse hyperextensions, bridges

Balance: Single leg deadlifts

Pull up machine: (I was supposed to do 3 x 12, but instead I just set a goal and worked towards it, no matter how many sets) 112 Assist x 25

Bent over Dbell rows: 20 lbs x 12
20 lbs x 12
20 lbs x 12

Dbell chest press: 20 lbs x 12
20 lbs x 12
20 lbs x 12

Dbell Romanian deadlifts: 25 lbs x 10
30 lbs x 10
30 lbs x 10

Squats on bench: (I know it was supposed to be split squats off bench, but I didn't have much fire left in me by then) 10 lbs x 10
10 lbs x 10
10 lbs x 10

Update:

Cardio: WOOHOO! Beat my previous PR. I did 512 calories on the elliptical in 40 minutes.. Average heart rate 144. Now gotta beat 512 calories.

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Oh.My.God. I did some hills this morning.. Man, talk about quite the workout! My legs are killing me. I sucked and only did 7.5 climbs in 10 minutes. I know I am using the wrong terminology, but a "climb" for me is going up and coming down.

If you go to the Bethel track, stand looking past the Ralph Desantis scoreboard.. Next to the baseball field cages you'll be staring at the hill o' death. I thought it was a pretty ambitious hill to pick for a first time, but at least I have something to work off of now. After the hills, I walked the track. I did try to run a bit, but that wasn't happening.

Today is the first day that I will not be doing any hospital runs. I have a HUGE assignment due for my psycho class. Do I really need to know about assistive technology in other countries? Do I really need to know what legislation says about wheelchair use in China? No.

Edit: Started working at 9:00 after I had breakfast, worked out, etc.. So it's now 3:46 and I just finished my work. Caught up until the 22nd. :( Still have to read 600 something pages. My thighs are killing me- I guess I found an area I need to work on! Heading to the hospital since I have time.

490 calories on elliptical.. average heart rate- 142.

Training with Sean later on!

Saturday, July 11, 2009

2.75 miles in 40 minutes.. Still aiming to get past this and get to 3 miles!

Friday, July 10, 2009

I think exhaustion has hit me.. I sucked yet again at cardio- elliptical 486 calories in 40 minutes. Average heartrate- 136. Stinky- didn't beat last time... Ah well, I'll do better next session.

Thursday, July 9, 2009

Kinda sucked at cardio today- 2.5 miles in 40 minutes. Not my best, but not my worst. I had an obnoxious pain in my rib'ish area that wouldn't let me stand up straight.. It kept pulling me forward. I need to go back to stretching/rolling.. I admit I haven't done it once this week.

We haven't slowed down yet. At all.

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

Things are intensifying moment by moment.. Man, talk about things changing on a dime. Also, things are getting worse with my Gma. When it rains, it pours, huh? Today, we have to split our time between the nursing home and the hospital.

I missed cardio yesterday, but was able to go this morning. Average heart rate- 144, and 496 calories. This will be going on my P.R. sheet as a starting point.

My eating has sucked this week. I know I am not eating enough at all. I am trying to get all my protein in so I at least have something to tide me over and give me sustenance. When things calm down, I have to really focus on getting my eating back up to par.. At least I am not eating anything bad/wrong!

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

I know this is supposed to be my workout journal, but many of my close friends and family read this, and this was the only common link between them. Anyway.

I am heading to the hospital for the day to be with my Aunt. Things are not looking good at all.

I am hoping to go do cardio tonight, as I am sure I'll need a release.

Monday, July 6, 2009

Went to the track for cardio this morning. Totally beat my previous distance- I went 2.75 miles in 40 minutes. I used lane 3 for walking the curves and lane 1 for jogging the straight aways. I have realized that I suck at running/jogging. My strides are super noisy and I just... I dunno! I can't really effectively go fast without looking like a spaz. Ah well, it didn't stop me. Next time, I would like to jog/run the straight aways in EVERY lap. This time, I walked the full laps towards the end. At least I improved my distance by half a mile!

On a more somber note, things have gotten shoved into craziness again. My Aunt (my Uncle Billy's-the one with cancer-wife) was fine Saturday night, and on Sunday, was admitted to the hospital for complete paralysis from waist down and one arm.. I don't remember which one- my mind is kinda swimming. Cognitively 100% intact. She's in a lot of pain and was subjected to all sorts of tests yesterday. She is going for more today. This is equally bad because today is my Uncle's appointment with the oncologist to determine if he wants to let nature take it's course or if he wants to be on the meds that cost $100,000+. He has been fighting for 6 years and has dodged death more times that anyone could imagine. I don't know what it is that keeps him going, but holy crap, he's got it...

(Update 9:05- Pain has increased and the paralysis has moved to her other arm now. Neck down is not doing well)
(Update 11:02- Paralysis has taken over everything from her neck down. Her systems are shutting down. Cogitive acquity is not going so well either. They still don't know what it is- they have possible theories, but will not know more until spinal tap is done.)
(Update 3:42-
She was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome. Not the diagnosis that we wanted at all. It's attacking her lungs and she is now in the ICU. They are putting her on a ventilator. If she pulls through, she will be in the hospital for weeks/months before being transferred to a rehabilitation center. They are going to put her on immunoglobulin therapy when she is stable enough. They think she's already in renal failure.)
(Update 8:40- Her bladder has shut down, and other organs are starting to slowly shut down. Her oxygen levels need a major boost. Her blood pressure is up to 220 over 190. She is on a ventilator now and is receiving the immunogobulin therapy tonight. My Uncle finally made it to see her, and the stress took a toll on him. He is being admitted at his "home base" hospital, Montefiore in the Bronx. It's not good that he's back in the hospital, but it is good that someone will be able to watch after him. Tomorrow is the turning point in my Aunt's health. They will know what her prognosis will be.)

.. And on top of it, things are not cool at the nursing home with my Gma. I will probably step in and take over those responsibility so my Mom can deal with my Aunt. We'll all have to pull together to figure out how to care for my Uncle. If my Aunt stays in the hospital much longer, we'll have to hire a nurse or live in companion for him. Oy.

.. AND. Today is my first day of class. WTF did I get myself into? This class is psycho. Seriously. I should have read 526 pages by today. HAHAH! Did I? No. Fun.
